Glossary - Writing
Editing - Client provides a pre-written original piece of work. Global makes appropriate improvements to the content flow by adjusting the order of presentation of certain ideas, substituting vocabulary, changing the presentation format (e.g. use of bullet points to replace lengthy sentences), re-grouping paragraphs and more. This service also includes proofreading and correction of spelling, grammar, punctuation, logical and syntactical errors, as well as inappropriate or inconsistent use of terminology. The main purpose of this exercise is to make sure that the messages are linguistically correct and presented in an effective way for the target audience.
Proofreading - This is a service that Global offers for client-supplied materials, and is included as part of our writing / editing / re-writing services. Proofreading covers the review and correction of spelling, grammar, punctuation, logical and syntactical errors, as well as inappropriate or inconsistent use of terminology. Where text is being loaded into special formats such as websites, print brochures...etc., proofreading also makes sure that the appropriate text appears in the designated area on the correct pages, that titles match content, captions match images, etc. The main purpose of proofreading is to make sure there are no mistakes prior to publication. Quality Assurance Process (QAP) - Global has a rigorous process for all writing projects to ensure we provide high quality content and customer satisfaction. The process extends from defining requirements prior to the start of the project, to outline preparation, to post delivery revision, with active client communication throughout. Please see quality assurance process for details.
Re-Writing - Re-writing is more involved than editing and proofreading. Client provides Global with pre-written piece of work, clearly indicating whether it is original work. If the material is extracted from other sources, client needs to provide clear information on the source. In both cases the writer will conduct research on the topic. For original works, the main purpose of this exercise is to improve content and presentation. In the course of the revision, some points of marginal relevance may be dropped, new points may be added to enrich content, and re-organization of content may take place to increase focus and improve content flow. Editing and proofreading are automatically included in this service. If the submitted piece of work is from an external source (e.g. magazine article), and the client would like something of a similar nature written on the selected topic, then re-writing would involve picking out ideas that can be reworked and presented from a different angle, gathering new ideas that can be integrated into the piece, and making sure that the final work stands as an independent self-contained piece of its own and that there is no plagiarism infringement.
